Weekly after-school and weekend classes in Creative Writing
For young people with interests in Poetry, Short Fiction, Novel Writing, Screenwriting, Play writing, Fantasy, Science Fiction and more. Our creative writing classes inspire a love of words. Together we build community as we write, read, laugh and share our interest in creative writing. Explore creative writing in our supportive and nurturing small-group classes. Writers are invited to submit work to our annual anthology at the end of each semester. We never repeat a class, so students can take our creative writing classes year after year. Our Creative Writing instructors are industry professionals with extensive teaching experience

Young creative writers belong at Centauri! Explore plot, character and setting as you discover your unique writer’s voice and experiment with form and style. Our weekly workshops are endlessly varied! Try your hand at poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, fantasy world-building, genre fiction, novel structure, flash fiction, podcasts, graphic novel writing and more. A typical class includes exploration of a writing technique, 2-3 inspiring creative writing prompts, a chance to collaborate with other writers and an opportunity to share work for encouragement or feedback. Beginner and experienced writers are welcome and the content of classes is always new, so writers can grow with us, year after year.
Semester 1: Submit your favourite pieces to our online magazine.
Semester 2: Pull together everything you have learned as you edit your work for inclusion in our annual book-length anthology. Our year ends with a book launch, reading and celebration in early June.

Creative Writing: Across the Finishing Line!
Ages 12-18, In our Bloor West Village Studio:

Most of our creative writing programs focus on generating multiple pieces: short prompts that emerge from techniques we explore together. This class is different! Over the course of the semester, you will write and polish three complete pieces, including an entire short story. Each week we will get inspired with a freewrite, discuss a writing technique… then time will be set aside for writers to further develop their own pieces – either ones generated in our workshops, or begun elsewhere. With the support of the instructor – and their peers – writers will take a project from initial idea through to the final draft. Short stories, monologues, one act plays and more: whatever your writing interest, we’ll give you the time, space and support to make your stories the very best they can be. Creative writing is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, and we’ll help you make it to the finishing line

Unbreakable: A Creative Journey

In this dynamic mixed arts workshop, you’ll find a safe space for self expression as you write, paint, craft, journal and build community through the arts. It isn’t easy being a teenager today, but creativity can promote well-being and relieve stress. We’ll support one another with kind words and laughter as we learn the power of meditation and mindfulness. Join us and discover how unleashing our inner artist can relieve anxiety, promotive positive thinking and give us the strength to be the best version of ourselves. In this fun-filled workshop you’ll do more than explore the arts: you’ll discover your own resilience, channel emotions into expression and build a toolkit for navigating life’s ups and downs with confidence.
