Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Centauri Arts?

Centauri Arts was first established in 1995, as an overnight summer arts camp. From the start, a belief in the importance of community and creativity was central to our goals. In 2012, we opened an arts academy in Toronto, offering classes for young people and adults in creative writing, film, acting and fine arts. Shortly after, we started ‘Centauri Writing Retreats’, running themed creative writing holidays for adults and families in Costa Rica and Mexico. In 2019, we began offering online arts programs, and young people from all over the world joined our arts classes. September 2020 saw a brand new venture for Centauri Arts when we opened our English Tutoring programs. The importance of creativity and community remain central to all that we do: a belief that when people come together to create, the possibilities are endless.

What makes the English Tutoring classes at Centauri Arts unique?

Our instructors are not only experienced English teachers who understand how to inspire young people – they are accomplished writers, too. In fact, the designer of our English tutoring programs, and our two senior instructors, all have MFAs in Creative Writing. We believe that when young people harness their imaginations and learn to write creatively, so much else follows: an understanding of language conventions, an awareness of structure and an appreciation of literature. We teach all forms of writing at Centauri Arts including essay writing – but where possible, we incorporate creative writing, ensuring students are not only inspired, but feel empowered to explore their own ideas.

Who are the instructors at the Centauri Arts Academy?

All instructors who teach at Centauri Arts have professional expertise in their field. We work with writers, artists, filmmakers, directors, actors and photographers – all of whom have teaching skills and years of experience working with young people.

What arts classes are available through Centauri Arts?

Students at Centauri Arts can choose from Creative Writing, Film, Acting, Fine Art, Digital Art, Photography and our signature English Tutoring program – which includes classes for students who struggle in school, as well as gifted writers looking for enrichment.

Is it possible to take classes online with Centauri Arts?

Yes! We offer Digital Art, Creative Writing and Screenwriting as regular online classes, and all our in-person classes can pivot easily to an online format if required. Our English Tutoring and Enrichment program is offered in person, and online.
